My tulips are blooming! This means I planted them right! Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing. I have no tulip experience, very little bulb experience really. This was the year I decided I wanted a tulip yard. It was happening. Living in Texas I managed to get them in our garage refrigerator in the nick of time and I planted them New Years Day. Tulips are one of my most favorite flowers. I love flowers so much I can’t just have one favorite.
Here’s a photo when they first started coming up. Aren’t they cute? I was thrilled at this point just knowing I didn’t plant the bulbs upside down.
Our Texas winter again is very mild this year so I went a head and planted some spring flowers so my tulips would’t be so lonely. My pansies were looking pretty straggly so they went into the compost.
I have to say I’m in love. Every year will be a tulip year from now on. I have a few stragglers just now coming up. Not sure why it took them so long, but I’m glad their joining the party. The neighbors think I’m weird because they see me taking pictures of my tulips every single day.
Drool. I love the flowers outside my kitchen window.
Ignore the dead fern in the background. In my photography class this would be what we call a “distracting element”. My bad….but the planter weighs like 80 pounds. So pretend you don’t see it. A view like this from my kitchen sink definitely makes doing dishes more tolerable.
I plan on going to the Dallas Arboretum this weekend to check out their tulips blooming. Maybe I’ll get some tips or ideas for next year. I’m still a newbie to tulips so I’m hoping to be even more confident and prepared next year. Oh next year…..I’ll plant even more!!
Do you love tulips as much as I do? What are your favorite colors?
