BIRTHDAY CAKE BODY SCRUB RECIPE

8879

We have a birthday in our house this week, so we’re gearing up for a fun week filled with birthday treats! My girl Ash is turning 15, and we like to find fun ways to celebrate all week long. This birthday cake body scrub is such an easy little treat to make, and it smells just like birthday cake without all the calories.

BIRTHDAY CAKE BODY SCRUB INGREDIENTS

Organic coconut oil and sugar are the basic ingredients in this scrub. For that delicious birthday cake scent, I used a skin-safe vanilla fragrance oil. To give it the fun birthday look, I added a tiny drop of food coloring and colorful rainbow sprinkles. I’ve made this scrub many times, and the basic grocery-store sprinkles have never bled into the mixture.

HOW TO MAKE BIRTHDAY CAKE BODY SCRUB

You can absolutely leave out the drop of red food coloring, or substitute another color.  We have white towels and I can tell you this tiny drop of food coloring will not stain your skin or leave color on white towels.  It’s so much more birthday fun having a pink body scrub though.  Just stick with 1 drop and you’re good to go!

You’ll find the exact measurements in the recipe card below. This recipe makes approximately 1½ cups of body scrub, but you can easily adjust the serving amount if you’d like to make more.

Instructions

  • In a medium size bowl add coconut oil and mix with a spoon until it softens up.  DO NOT MELT THE OIL or the texture will not be light and fluffy.
  • Add vanilla essential oil (and food coloring if using) to the coconut oil, stir to blend.
  • Pour in sugar and mix well, add the sprinkles and mix again.
  • Store in a clean storage container and use within 2-3 weeks.
  • If you would like to increase the amount of scrub you make, adjust the serving size at the top from 1.

BEST BODY SCRUB CONTAINERS

You can store this scrub in any airtight container, but sometimes presentation matters!  For gift giving,  4 ounce and 8 ounce Mason jars work perfectly.  Add a square of pretty fabric under the jar ring and finish it with ribbon for an easy homemade gift.  Hinged airtight jars also work well if you’re making a larger batch.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: Will the sprinkles bleed?

Answer:  That may depend on the type of sprinkles you use. I use basic rainbow sprinkles from the grocery store, and they’ve never bled color into my scrub.

Question:  Do the sprinkles spoil?

Answer: I recommend using homemade body scrub within 2–3 weeks and keeping water out of the container. Always discard it if the texture, color, or smell changes.

Question:  Will this attract ants?

Answer:  Sugar can attract ants, so keep the lid tightly closed and wipe away any scrub or sugar residue around the container and shower after use.

Question:  Will the food coloring rub off on my towels?

Answer: I use only one tiny drop of regular food coloring and haven’t had it transfer to my white towels. If you’re concerned, leave the coloring out entirely — the scrub works just as well without it.

love how soft my skin feels after using this body scrub! It also makes a great hand scrub during the winter months when everything feels extra dry.

Store your scrub in a cool, dry place and try to keep water out of the jar while using it in the shower. For another easy homemade scrub, try my Coconut Lime Body Scrub too.  Enjoy!
