COCONUT LIME BODY SCRUB INGREDIENTS
Sugar and coconut oil are the base of this scrub, while fresh lime zest gives it that bright citrus scent. I also add lime essential oil for a stronger fragrance and a drop or two of food coloring for the fun tropical blue color. The coloring is completely optional and can be left out if you prefer.
It’s really easy to zest a lime using a zester tool, it work’s great for zesting all citrus. Be sure to save the lime for another use. The light scent of coconut comes from the coconut oil itself. Some coconut oils have stronger scents than others. If you would like a stronger coconut scent consider adding in some coconut essential oil.
HOW TO MAKE COCONUT LIME BODY SCRUB
You can absolutely leave out the food coloring, or substitute another color. We have white towels and I can tell you this tiny amount of food coloring will not stain your skin or leave color on white towels. It’s visually more fun having a color to your body scrub though. Just stick with 1-2 drops and you’re good to go!
- Measure out the un-melted coconut oil, and place in a bowl. Mash the oil up with the back of a spoon until softened. It’s important not to melt the coconut oil, or the scrub won’t have the same light, fluffy texture.
- Add the lime essential oil, coconut essential oil if using and 1-2 drop of blue food coloring. Mix well.
- Add the sugar and stir until fully combined.
- Gently stir in zest.
You’ll find the exact measurements in the recipe card below. This recipe makes approximately 1½ cups of body scrub, but you can easily adjust the serving amount if you’d like to make more.

- Can I make coconut lime body scrub without food coloring?

I’d use it within about 2–3 weeks and keep water out of the container. - Can I use a different essential oil?
Yes. You can adjust the scent, but make sure any essential or fragrance oil you use is skin-safe. - Will the food coloring stain my towels?
I use white towels and have never had a problem with the food coloring staining my skin or towels. Its a small amount and it gets washed off.
HOW TO STORE COCONUT LIME BODY SCRUB
Store the scrub in a clean, airtight container in a cool, dry place. Try to keep water out of the jar while using it in the shower, and use the scrub within 2–3 weeks. The lime zest may naturally soften over time, so discard the scrub if the smell, color, or texture changes. This airtight hinged lid is perfect for storing body scrub and it looks pretty.
