Cheers to the weekend friends! I know I’ve been overloading you with Christmas crafts and food lately, so let’s talk some fashion, okay? I want to talk about ways to wear patterned tights like a pro. Absolutely anyone and everyone can find a pair of patterned tights to elevate their look! Whether you go bold or with a simple pair of tights, it’s a great way to transform and make an outfit fun, and don’t we all need that? It’s so easy to get bored with our outfits, this is one of my favorite tricks to add some pizazz!
My daughter Ashley is just as obsessed with wearing patterned tights as I am. In fact, she put several colors and styles on her Christmas wishlist to Santa. I picked up these tights from Target for just $10! It helped me add a new look to the existing clothes in my closet, plus it hid my pasty white wintry legs. So, okay, I have you convinced to add some patterned tights to your wardrobe, but now you’re wondering how to wear them like a pro? I’ve got a few tips for you!
MIX UP PATTERNS
A good rule of thumb when mixing patterns is to have a size difference. Wearing a large floral print would look great with a small dainty print or long stripes. The floral texture in my leggings goes great with the lines in my top, think opposites attract here. Have fun finding complimenting contrasting patterns that add some pizazz to your outfit.
DON’T FEEL LIKE YOU NEED TO SPEND A LOT
There are a lot of different price levels of tights, from the slimming Spanx version to inexpensive ones. Personally, I love the luxury and the sculpting feel of high end ones, especially Spanx. At the same time I’m always terrified of a snag and have a bottle of clear nail polish on me at all times if I get a run. Decide what price range works for you. There are pros and cons to both.
FIND YOUR OWN STYLE
DON’T BE AFRAID TO GO BOLD
Nothing makes a plain Jane outfit pop more than a gorgeous pair of patterned tights. Have confidence and rock the look, have fun with your outfits and inspire those around you. Don’t be afraid to add colored tights too!
PAIR THEM WITH A SIMPLE SOLID OUTFIT
Playing with outfit patterns is fun for the fashionista in all of of us, but there is something to be said about a simple solid dress paired with patterned tights. Any solid dress will look amazing with the texture and pattern of tights, and let’s not forget the gorgeous look of a monochromatic black outfit with tights, it’s a classic whether you go big or small.
KEEP ACCESSORIES IN MIND
I love adding accessories. I’m from Texas where the girls are really known to layer it up. Keep your jewelry and other accessories in mind when adding in patterned tights, especially bold. Wearing a strong pattern on the legs may not be the best time to wear that statement necklace or huge feather earrings.
THINK ABOUT YOUR FOOTWEAR CHOICES
Keep in mind what shoes you’re wearing. I personally think boots look good with all tights, whether a big or small print and yeah, solid ones too! There are always exceptions but generally larger patterns look better, at least in my opinion with boots, whether ankle, knee, or over the knee. I tend to go with a smaller print when wearing pumps, as it’s a cleaner look.
TAKE PRECAUTIONS WHEN WASHING & STORING
Not to be gross, but if you wear undies under your tights, you really don’t need to wash them often if at all. They’ll probably wear out before they get really dirty anyway. Should the need to wash then arise, be sure to hand wash and hang dry. Be careful storing tights in between wears, as I’ve had the wood lining of my drawer snag them before. I now store each pair in small ziplock bags, and sometimes I’ll write the pattern style on the bag.
I love wearing tights this time of year because it keeps my legs warm and gives me a lot more wardrobe choices! I say they’re a lady’s best friend. What is a better way to make an outfit feel more interesting? There are so many different styles out there, so find your style and be gorgeous! Looks like I’ll be buying another of these tights, when Ashley saw me wearing them she said she wanted them. Yeah, I’m a softie, so I gave them to her.
My next post will be on Christmas Eve, where I show you all of our family Christmas photos, and wouldn’t you know it, Ashley is rocking a pair of patterned tights!
